Ingredients

  • 1 cup toor dal

  • 2 cups spinach (chopped)

  • 2 tbsp oil or ghee

  • 1 tsp cumin seeds (jeera)

  • 3–4 garlic cloves

  • 1 green chili

  • ½ tsp turmeric

  • Salt to taste

Method

Step 1: Cook the Dal

  • Wash and pressure cook toor dal with turmeric and water (3–4 whistles)

  • Mash lightly once cooked

Step 2: Add Spinach

  • Add chopped spinach to the cooked dal

  • Simmer for 5–7 minutes until soft

This step ensures nutrients are retained while blending flavors

Step 3: Prepare the Tadka

  • Heat oil/ghee in a pan

  • Add cumin seeds and let them crackle

  • Add garlic and green chilli, sauté until golden

Step 4: Combine & Finish

  • Pour the tadka over the dal

  • Mix well and simmer for 2–3 minutes
