Ingredients

1 cup toor dal (split pigeon peas)

2 cups spinach, chopped

2 tbsp oil or ghee
-
1 tsp cumin seeds

3–4 garlic cloves, chopped

1 green chili, chopped

½ tsp turmeric
Method
Step 1: Cook the Dal

Rinse and pressure cook the toor dal with turmeric and water (about 3–4 whistles).

Lightly mash once cooked.
Step 2: Add Spinach

Stir in chopped spinach and simmer for 5–7 minutes until softened.

This helps retain nutrients while blending flavors.
Step 3: Prepare the Tadka

Heat oil or ghee in a pan. Add cumin seeds and let them crackle.

Add garlic and green chili, sauté until golden and fragrant.
Step 4: Combine & Finish

Pour the tempering over the dal. Mix well and simmer for 2–3 minutes.
